Our Scripture reading today is Luke 2:46-49.
Verse 49, "And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?"
Where else would one expect to find the Son of God? Where else would the Way, the Truth, and the Life want to spend His time? Technically, His Father did know where He was and will always know where He is. The word, wist, means to have known. You should have known where to find me. You should have known that coming to the Temple just to go through the motions and leave is not becoming of the Son of God.
This is the observation that challenged me most in these verses. At such a very early age, Jesus Christ shows us by example how important the will and work of the Father are by showing us how important the place of worship is. Every child of God should be found in the place of worship on the Lord's Day. If someone were to call you on Monday and say, "I was trying to get ahold of you all day yesterday, where were you? I needed your help!" Following the example of the Lord Jesus, we would say, "It was Sunday...don't you know I go to church on Sunday? Sunday is the Lord's Day. I am available to help you six days a week, but not on Sunday."* Unfortunately, too many Christians treat Sunday and church just like any other day or activity. In some cases, the secular is given more priority than the spiritual.
By God's grace, we must be about the Father's business!

*This is not to say we would not help anyone on Sunday, but only when it would not interfere with the services and activities of the church.
