Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:32-33.

Verse 32, "But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep:  and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him."

I wonder if there has ever been a time in your life when you really wanted to see something or be somewhere, but you were just too tired to stay up or to get there?  Possibly it was New Year's Eve one year or some other special event on the calendar and you just could not stay awake any longer.  It seems like this would be one of those events that no matter how tired, there would be a second wind come over Peter and the others who were present.  While they did eventually come to, it is clear that they missed a portion of the prayer meeting.  “It is very probable that, on this occasion, he had been engaged in earnest prayer for several hours before the transfiguration came, and it is worthy of note that he was transfigured while he was praying. Every blessing comes to the great Head of the Church, and to all the members of his mystical body, through prayer.” (Spurgeon)

Our enemy is doing his very best to put as many believers to sleep as possible.  Think about it.  We have no idea what is going on around us when we are sleeping.  Spiritual sleep keeps us from living for the Lord and seeing the glory of God.  Spiritual sleep keeps us from growing in grace and serving our King.  Ephesians 5:14, "Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light."  If necessary, ask your Father in Heaven to wake you up!
