Our Scripture reading today is Luke 22:39-42.

Verse 42, "Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."

It is the way all of our prayers to God should be made. We all have our prayer lists.  We all have situations and needs that only God can meet.  It is possible though that my desire does not match the will of God for my life or whoever I am praying for.  In no way does this mean we should stop asking God for our daily needs to be met.  As part of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus preached in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"  God's children should keep on asking and asking according to God's will.

In HIs humanity, Jesus Christ was God and man.  To me, this means He knew the pain of the crucifixion as well as the abandonment of His Father were coming.  In His humanity, this was too much to bear.  The Son of God surrendered His will to the will of the Father.  We must follow His example in our prayer life.  It is not always God's will to heal, but He can.  It is not always God's will to take away the trial, but He can.  Seek His will in every area of your life!
