Our Scripture reading today is 1 Timothy 6:6-10.
Verse 10, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
If there is one thing that will motivate mankind to deceive one another, it is a love for money. The desire to obtain of wealth has been the root of so many other sinful behaviours. Money is not the source of all evil, but the love of it is. The desire to have it all costs is. Someone might be reading this and think, "I have so little, so this does not apply to me." Actually, these verses of Scripture apply to everyone regardless of the amount of money in one's bank account. Our financial situation today might be as a result of our loving money more than the LORD Jesus.
Do we have a desire to please God or does a desire to have more money motivate how we live our lives? The answer to this question will determine Who or what has more control over our decision making process. God is the source of everything we have. We are to be faithful stewards of what He has given to us. He faithfully provides us with daily strength to earn a living and provide for those who are in our care. However, our riches cannot be what motivate and control us. Psalm 62:10, "Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them."
