Our Scripture reading today is John 6:26-27.
Verse 27, "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."
The comparison given by Jesus Christ is between the physical and spiritual. How often do we place more emphasis on the tasks of life that have no eternal value and place little to no emphasis on the tasks that have eternal value? The Saviour isn't saying not to work a job in order to pay your bills. However, He is saying there should be labour given for spiritual or eternal things. Two eternal things come to mind: the church and the souls of men. What labour are we putting into our local church and the souls of men? The career or job you have enables you to live physically. In what way or ways are you serving Jesus Christ and His church? This enables us labour for the "meat which endureth unto everlasting life."
