Our Scripture reading today is Luke 24:36, "And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you."
Jesus appears to His disciples and immediately offers them peace. He had been crucified and is now risen from the dead. The disciples were already grieving and gathering together not knowing what they were going to do. Jesus is still offering peace to whatever situation we are facing today. He is with us in the Person of the Holy Spirit and He will never leave us.
"About the Lord there were the air and style of one who had peace himself, and loved to communicate it to others. The tone in which he spake peace tended to create it. He was a peace-maker, and a peace-giver, and by this sign they were driven to discern their Leader." (Spurgeon)
