Our Scripture reading today is Joshua 3:14-17.
Verse 17, "And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan."
Can you imagine what was going through the minds of the priests who were leading the way across the Jordan? This was not a small stream and the Bible tells us the water was overflowing the banks of the river. The first step into the water would have taken all the faith they had and then some. Isn't that how it is today? I mean the first step of faith. As they stood on the shore, they had only a verbal promise with nothing to see. This is why many times we refer to a life situation needing one step of faith at a time. They believed the words of Joshua were true.
By the time these priests were in the middle of the river, their faith would have been as big as any mountain you can think of. It was their faith that allowed everyone else to cross over on dry ground. Our faith or lack there of, will have an impact on others around us. Our faith can encourage the next generation to be willing to take their first step of faith and never look back.
