Our Scripture reading today is Jeremiah 20:9-10.
Verse 9, "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay."
At some point, I think in my teenage years, I remember hearing a preacher say to read the Bible everyday until something burns inside of you. At the time it seemed like an unusual statement to make. However, we read this morning that the prophet Jeremiah experienced this very same phenomena. God's Word was burning inside of him.
Now at 47 years of age, I can honestly say it is not an unusual phenomena for the Word of God to burn inside of me. It is actually something I long for to happen more and more. We need to not simply read the Word of God. We must allow the Word of God to read us. When God's Word is reading us it brings conviction, correction, encouragement, and much much more. This is the burning we all need from the pages of Scripture. Give God thanks today for His Holy Word!!
