Our Scripture reading today is Ruth 1:16-18.

Verse 16, "And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:"

What we find in this passage of Scripture is not only a commitment to change someone's physical address, but also a turning from false gods to the one true God.  Ruth is not only leaving Moab, she is turning from the Moabite gods to Jehovah.  This would not have been possible had Naomi not been a good testimony to Ruth.  In order for Ruth to say what she said, Naomi's relationship with God must have made an impact.  This is in spite of all that Naomi had endured.  Remember, her husband and two sons have died and yet she is still living for God.

We never know what our walk with God is saying to those around us.  It should be our prayer that we are genuine and consistent in what we say and how we act.  As difficulties are allowed into our lives and we faithfully stand on Biblical principles, it will be then that our testimony is louder and stronger.  “Ah! You will never win any soul to the right by a compromise with the wrong. It is decision for Christ and his truth that has the greatest power in the family, and the greatest power in the world, too.” (Spurgeon)
