Our Scripture reading today is Acts 18:1-3.
Verse 3, "And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers."
The Apostle Paul needed help on his missionary journeys. He is referred to by many as the greatest missionary; but it is clear, he was not a one man show. In our text today, God brings Paul across the path of some lay people who just happen to be in the same line of work as Paul. Please understand, I know things like this don't just happen. God was at work. Paul found Aquila and Priscilla because God orchestrated their meeting. Thus would begin one of the most important friendships in all of the New Testament. Paul would later write to the Roman Christians, "Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles." (Romans 16:3-4)
When I consider Anchor Baptist Church and all the labour that goes into a week of ministry, it is very humbling to have such a team of friends helping one another carry the load. Just meditating on what happens each Sunday in the summer can be very overwhelming. It is impossible for one man or woman to get everything ready for our 10am service under the 10 tents. There is not only the setup, but getting everything packed up after the service. It is an honour to serve the Lord together as friends. Our friendship is knit together by the Spirit of God. As Paul led him to help, God brings us together to bring Him honour and glory while seeking to speak truth into as many lives as possible.
Have a wonderful day.
