Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 17:28, "And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle."
Did Eliab really know what was on David's heart? I am quite confident he did not know what his young brother had on his heart. David's presence and concern obviously made Eliab angry and jealous. One might think he should have been pleased to see David considering all the items that David brought from home. Eliab had no right to be upset with David. Eliab's actions revealed his own pride and poor spirit.
We must seek to be right with God and less concerned if everyone else is right with God. This verse reminds me of when someone is pointing at someone else, they have three fingers pointing back at them. Eliab was pointing at David, but in reality Eliab had more he needed to deal with than his younger brother.
