Our Scripture reading today is James 1:14-15.
Verse 15, "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
The downward slide to death begins when we are tempted with our own desires or lusts. Satan knows exactly how to go after you and me. He has a specific plan to not just tempt us but to destroy us. His goal is always to bring forth destruction and death. "After sin is brought forth in actual commissions, the finishing of it (as Dr. Manton observes) is its being strengthened by frequent acts and settled into a habit. And, when the iniquities of men are thus filled up, death is brought forth. There is a death upon the soul, and death comes upon the body. And, besides death spiritual and temporal, the wages of sin is eternal death too."
God has given us the power by His Spirit through His Word to say no to the original temptation. God's Word is our spiritual weapon that keeps temptation from becoming sin which eventually leads to death. The Word of God keeps everything alive in our lives that will bring glory to God. Psalm 119:11, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
