Our Scripture reading today is Nehemiah 9:1-3.

Verse 3, "And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God."

The children of Israel were very serious at this point about getting right with God.  They removed themselves from those who worshipped false gods and then they confessed their sins and sought forgiveness.  Our verse of emphasis today shows that what they were doing was from the heart.  Most of their day was spent in worship and in the Word of God.

When we are not living as we should, it makes it very difficult to read God's Word.  The Word of God tends to convict us of our sin and this causes us to keep it shut.  There is no better time than the present for us to confess any known sin and spend time in the Word of God.  It will change us from the inside out.
