Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 5:8-11.
Verse 9, "Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world."
This verse should give every child of God confidence that we can live in victory. We do not have to be overrun by the world, the flesh, or even the devil. The Apostle Peter reminds us that we can "RESIST stedfast in the faith". The context is the attack of the devil and how we are able to overcome him. The word, "resist", means to set one's self against, to oppose. I wonder...are we against what our enemy is for and are we for what our enemy is against? You might need to read that again. If we expect to live in victory as a follower of Jesus Christ, we had better get this settled. There must be a clear line drawn in our lives. God's Word is truth! Truth will always be truth and it is not negotiable. Truth does not change over time, by culture, or by trends in society. Truth is truth.
Notice what Jude writes in verse 3, "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." As we are contending for the faith, we are resisting the devil and his team of demons. As we are speaking the truth in love, we are opposing the plan of our enemy, the devil. Standing for God's truth is naturally opposing the lies of our enemy!
We must stand with boldness and compassion.
