Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."
We are reading today (Psalm 51) in the middle of King David's confession. After going one year since his adultery with Bathsheba and murder of Uriah, he finally humbles himself and seeks God's forgiveness. The guilt and shame must have overwhelmed David.
The sooner we come to the realization that we have sinned the better. Even better is when we humbly confess that sin to God. Someone once said, "Keep short accounts with God." 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
