Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 17:7-15.
Verse 15, "And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days."
The simple but profound statement ("she went and did") in verse 15 will transform each of our lives if we copy it every time we open the Word of God. Elijah's word in this story can represent God's Word to us today. Her faith and obedience were crucial to her needs being met. It would require not only hearing what Elijah said to do, but then following through on it. One important principle taught here in this text is giving God what is His and He will provide all of our needs.
At Anchor Baptist Church, we believe in tithing as a Biblical conviction. The Bible is clear that the first tenth of what we earn belongs to the Lord. Malachi 3:8, 10, "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." The tithe is considered obedience giving. Any offering we give after we pay the tithe is our love gift to the Lord. Our tithes and offerings are to come from a cheerful heart knowing that God has given us everything we have. If you have children in your home, please teach them now the importance of tithing and giving offerings. John D. Rockefeller was the richest man in the world in his time. He said, “I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week".
