Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:9-12.
Verse 11, "Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry."
You might remember in our current series from the book of Acts that Paul was not too happy with Mark when he left the ministry. Acts 15:38, "But Paul thought not good to take him (Mark) with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work." At the end of Paul's life, his tune changed regarding his thoughts about Mark. He is writing to Timothy with commendation for Mark.
Is there a splintered relationship in your life? Is there a family member that you have not spoken to in years? Is there someone at work that you avoid every chance you get? I am not sure what transpired between Paul and Mark, but something obviously changed. I am not trying to read into the Scriptures too much, but I can imagine Paul realizing that everyone is entitled to a second chance. In addition, I can imagine Mark realizing that he made a poor choice in turning back when he was needed. Whatever the case may be, it is time for you to initiate a restored relationship.
The first place to start is prayer. Maybe you are already praying for a restored relationship. Do NOT STOP! In this time of prayer, ask God for His leading as to when you should approach the individual. Next, in some way look for ways to show God's love to the individual. Seek God's help on this as well. We must do all we can to make every relationship profitable.
