Our Scripture reading today is Joshua 4:5-7.

Verse 6, "That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?"

The crossing of Jordan was an event of great importance.  The children of Israel were finally heading into the land of promise.  The stone that was being assembled by each tribe would be a reminder to future generations of the faithfulness of almighty God.  It would remind them of the miracle of crossing the Jordan at a time when it was the most impossible to cross.  God specializes in the impossible!

I am not sure how you remember things, but I would strongly encourage you to be setting aside some "stones" every now and then.  These reminders will not only help you, but will like in this text, help future generations.  You could write down blessings in a journal or in the margin of your Bible.  Pictures can also be a way of remembering God's provision.

God's power is evident in every generation.  God's provision is greater than we deserve in every generation.  This does not negate the responsibility we have to teach the next generation of the goodness and grace of our God in our lives personally.  Pick up a stone or two today.  We have been blessed!
