Our Scripture reading today is Luke 12:42-44.
Verse 42, "And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?"
Peter is curious as to who Jesus had in mind when He spoke this parable. Was he speaking to the disciples or to everyone? If there was some confusion, Jesus clears it up in verse 43. This challenge to be ready for His return was to be followed by every one of His servants. It is becoming of a follower of Jesus Christ to live in such a way that he or she would not be embarrassed or ashamed if Christ were to return today. We are beginning to see that the church is becoming less and less important to believers. This is an indication of someone who is not living as if Jesus could return imminently.
It is the faithful and wise steward who lives their life in readiness. Matthew 24:44, "Therefore by ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." Are you ready for His return?
