Our Scripture reading today is Revelation 2:8-10.
Verse 10, "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
Where is your fear placed? There is a healthy and unhealthy fear. King Solomon tells us that the fear of man is a snare aka a trap. We would classify this fear as unhealthy and should be avoided. John the Apostle admonishes not to fear the persecution and suffering that will be brought on by our enemy. Satan has nothing but destruction and discouragement on his agenda for our lives. A place to turn to often is 1 John 4:4, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
Our fear should be placed in our loving, Heavenly Father. This fear should bring us to love Him and obey Him. Ecclesiastes 12:13, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." “Fear God is a call that puts us in our place, and all other fears, hopes, and admirations in their place.” (Kidner)
Make sure your fear is not mis-placed. It will determine whether you live in victory or defeat.
