Our Scripture reading today is 1 John 3:1-3.
Verse 3, "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."
As we see the coming of the Lord drawing nearer and nearer, our daily goal should be living more and more like Jesus Christ. The closer we get to seeing Him for the first time, the less we should be living according to the desires of the flesh. In some ways, I believe we can compare this to a graduation day. When a college or university student is closing in on completing a degree, they should be more prepared for their career than the first day of class. It matters not how long you have been a Christian. What does matter is are you looking and acting more like Jesus Christ every day?
Our daily thought needs to be, "Today could be the day I see Jesus for the first time." Having this thought in the forefront of our mind will help motivate us to live in a way that honours and pleases Him. 2 Timothy 2:4, "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." Pure living will be accomplished every time we yield to the Spirit and say no to the flesh! Galatians 5:16, "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." The choice is up to you!
