Our Scripture reading today is Jeremiah 5:24-29.
Verse 26, "For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men."
Jeremiah was a prophet during a time of great rebellion. His message was one of great warning and judgment. It was the mercy of God that allowed there to be a witness like Jeremiah. The context of this passage speaks of a bird catcher. This man is not looking to catch birds like Jesus wanted His disciples to catch fish. In this case, it is for destruction not salvation.
Our enemy is constantly looking for ways to trap us in sin with the ultimate goal of destruction. If he can keep us from growing in grace, he will attempt to do it. Satan will never stop being our enemy. Thankfully, we have the ability to overcome his traps in the power of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16, "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." God has given us the necessary tools to say no to the world, the flesh and even the devil. We must walk daily in His Word in order to be ready for the snares and traps of Satan. Claim your victory today through the Word of God and His Spirit!
