Our Scripture reading today is John 15:16, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you."
Our salvation is a gift from God that cannot be earned, but must be received. It was completely paid for on the cross by the sinless, Lamb of God. Once we trade our sin for His sinless record, we are made the children of God with a calling to bring forth fruit for the glory of our God. This calling is not part of salvation, but because we are saved. We know from this chapter that in order to be fruit bearers we must be abiding in the Vine. Jesus Christ is the Vine that provides us with the nutrients necessary to bring forth much fruit.
There is a connection in this verse between fruit bearing and answered prayer. The two go hand in hand with one another. In order to bring forth the fruit that remains, we must ask in faith that God will provide it. We are just a branch holding the fruit. The production of fruit is supernatural and can only be accomplished by the power of God. Let's go out today asking God to bring forth fruit in our lives!
