Our Scripture reading today is John 14:1-3.
Verse 2, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
The dwelling places that we live in today are all temporal. Whether we rent or own, it is only for a brief season of time that we will stay in this place. I would think most people live in more than one home in their lifetime. There are some exceptions, but not too many. The place Jesus Christ is speaking of in verse 2 of John 14 is eternal and final. There is no other place that can be compared to our eternal home in Heaven. We are assured of a residence in this place due to the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
Preparations have been and continue to be in the making. These preparations are an indication of love. Think about times when you have had guests coming to your home. You make things ready for their arrival. Jesus is preparing ("I go") a place for us because He loves us and knows we are coming. May we keep our sights set on our eternal home and the One Who is making all things ready!
