Our Scripture reading today is Deuteronomy 17:18-20.
Verse 20, "That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel."
The command is given here to future kings of Israel. The king should be humble, fear God, and follow His commandments. The blessing that comes from this kind of lifestyle is prolonged days. This does not only refer to a length of time, but to a full life while living. It would also have an impact on future generations.
We can conclude that reading and living the Word of God is the surest way to have a blessed and healthy spiritual life. In addition, God's Word will give us victory over tempation and keep us from sin. Every follower of Jesus Christ needs a daily dose of the Scriptures. They are given to us to know more about God and to prepare us for what every day holds. Think about how helpful it would be if we simply meditated on one verse of God's Word every day? The blessings would be innumerable. Find your verse and start today!
