Our Scripture reading today is Luke 11:42-44.
Verse 43, "Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets."
The best seats in the house (synagogue) were up front facing the people. They were reserved for the leaders and prominent people. For some reason, they thought it was only right that people knew about there so called walk with God. It was more about the display for people than it was their relationship with God. Their goal was to be famous and important and they would use whatever way possible to get there. Hence the warning from the Lord Jesus to stop seeking for the praise of men.
We can and should take note of this same warning. When we fall trap to living for the praise of men, we have our reward now and not in the Judgment Seat of Christ. Matthew 6:5, "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." The humble follower of Jesus Christ is the one who will be exalted by the Father. The humble follower will have all the grace necessary to live each day for the glory of God.
