Our Scripture reading today is Luke 5:36-38, "And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved."
The Lord Jesus continues to explain the purpose of His coming. He was not going to re-state something old or traditional. Jesus Christ came to introduce something brand new. He was not destroying the law but fulfilling it. Matthew 5:17, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." "An acorn is fulfilled when it grows into an oak tree. There is a sense in which the acorn is gone, but its purpose is fulfilled in greatness."
After we are born again by the Spirit of God, we will begin to live our lives in a new way. We are still the same in body but we are brand new in spirit. We are alive! 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." We are complete in the Lord Jesus. Colossians 2:10, "And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:" Jesus Christ makes all the difference. He is able to put the vilest of sinners into a new bottle! REJOICE!
