Today’s Scripture reading is 2 Corinthians 5:17-19.
Verse 17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Can you imagine what it would be like to make something new? In reality, it is impossible to take a 10 year old anything and make it brand new. We find in this verse of Scripture that there are no impossibilities with our God! He takes the worn out and weary and makes them brand new. He takes the depressed and defeated and makes them brand new. When we accept Jesus Christ's gift of salvation, we are no longer the same. This offer has no limit. Please take note of the word, "ANY". It matters not the background or status in society. You can be made new. It matters not the language or education level. You can be made new.
This new life in Jesus Christ should translate itself into a Christ-like way of living. The great change on the inside should become evident on the outside. "It is unfair for us to expect those who are not in Christ to live as if they were a new creation. However, it is not unfair to expect a changed life from people who say they are Christians. “I know no language, I believe there is none, that can express a greater or more thorough and more radical renewal, than that which is expressed in the term, ‘a new creature.’ ” (Spurgeon) Our change does not mean perfection as we are continually being changed by His Spirit to be more like Jesus Christ.
