Our Scripture reading today is Philippians 3:8-11.
Verse 8, "Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"
The Apostle Paul learned there isn't anything this world can offer that compares to the excellency of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. What Paul lost was nothing compared to what he gained in return. The very location (prison) of this writing proves his loss of all things. He put his relationship with Jesus Christ at the very centre of his life.
Who or what do we have at the centre of our lives? What are we holding onto today that is keeping us from the excellency of the knowledge of Christ? As we let go of the temporal, we will be more in tune with the eternal. If we are to gain the will of God and His blessings, we must be willing to die to our plans and ambitions. There will be fewer regrets at the end of a life that was surrendered to following the leading of God's Spirit. Like Paul of old, we all need to count some things as dung that we might win Christ.
