Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 8:19-20.

Verse 20, "That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles."

Isn't it amazing that Israel got to a place where they wanted to be like all the pagan nations around them?  The idea of having a king came from all the "ites" who had a king.  This passage of Scripture should be a warning to us to not allow ourselves to get caught up in what the world is striving for.  We, who are believers, ought to be completely different than those around us who do not know the LORD.  2 Corinthians 6:17, "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,"
