Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:43-45.

Verse 44, "Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men."

The disciples would have been on a "mountain top" after witnessing several miracles.  They must have been thinking there was no one who could stop Jesus Christ from leading the people out of the Roman oppression.  This brings us to verse 44.  Jesus gives them some news that they could not understand.  He lets His disciples know that He will suffer and eventually die at the hands of men. “To other words, you may lend occasional attention-but to what concerns my sufferings and death you must ever listen. Let them constantly occupy a place in your most serious meditations and reflections.” (Clarke)

We, too, should be ever mindful of what the Lord Jesus endured so we can live in freedom now and forever.  Our appreciation of His sacrificial death on the cross as well as the suffering leading to the cross should move us to live every day for His honour and glory.  If it has sunk deep within our hearts and minds, we will gladly say no to the world, flesh and devil.  We will gladly say yes to Jesus!

Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
