Our Scripture reading today is Philippians 3:13-14.
Verse 14, "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Someone once said, "If you aim at nothing, you are sure to hit it every time." As followers of Jesus Christ, we must be advancing forward seeking to bring honour and glory to God. It should be our daily aim to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. One way to describe worshipping the Lord is to make Him look good. Are my actions and words making God look good? Are they ascribing worth to the Lord Jesus?
When Paul writes about pressing toward the mark, he is describing someone who is striving to reach a goal. What is your goal for today? What is your goal for this week? Someone might say, "Survival is my goal today or this week." I would agree we all go through times like this and maybe you are in one right now. Paul had been in numerous survival places and yet he admonishes us to keep pressing forward. He challenges us to keep striving to reach the prize of whatever calling God has for our lives. It is a blessing to know that God and God alone enables to keep pressing toward the mark!
