Our Scripture reading today is Malachi 3:10, "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
If nothing else, the timing of today's verse should cause us to sit up and take notice. It was Wednesday night when we handed out a small book regarding the subject of....tithing. The interesting part to me is that I have had that booklet in my office for at least two months and within two days of giving it out, we come across this verse.
Everything we have has been given to us by God. Every dollar we have earned came directly from our heavenly Father. We ought to be willing to give Him everything. The plan God set up is for us to pay the tithe and give offerings from the rest. It is impossible to give what does not belong to me in the first place. The tithe belongs to God and it has been this way even before the law. (See Genesis 14:18-20.) As far as I can tell, this is the only verse of Scripture (Malachi 3:10) where God says to put Him to the test. You can rest assured that He always passes the test!
