Our Scripture reading today is 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.
Verse 16, "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."
As much as we try, we cannot stop our bodies from feeling the affects of the aging process. It might be our knees or even our back. Many things in our outward man begin to cause us pain.
This is what the Apostle Paul was referring to when he mentioned the outward man perishing. As the old saying goes, "We are not getting any younger." There are outward troubles that cannot be avoided.
There is, however, hope in this verse and passage of Scripture. The inward man can be continually renewed and strengthened every day. It is possible for the inward man to grow stronger the older we get in Christ. While the outward troubles are taking a toll, the Lord Jesus is doing a work of renewing and blessing on the inside. He provides a peace that goes beyond our understanding. Philippians 4:7, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." We may not see this inward renewing, but by faith we know God keeps His Word. Keep walking in His Word and the Holy Spirit will do the inner renewing.
