Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
Just last night I was meditating on the Apostle Peter's admonition that we should strive to be holy as God is holy. The longer we are saved, the more we should begin to look like Jesus Christ. We are being conformed into His image and not the image of the world. The prayer of the Psalmist will help us in our journey of spiritual growth. Once God reveals something is in us that should not be there, we must confess it and forsake it. “I call upon you to be cautious in using this prayer. It is easy to mock God, by asking him to search you whilst you have made but little effort to search yourselves, and perhaps still less to act upon the result of the scrutiny.” (Melvill, cited in Spurgeon)
True revival always starts with prayer and repentance.
