Our Scripture reading today is Luke 17:5-6.
Verse 5, "And the Apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith."
The context of the request in verse 5 is being able to forgive people over and over again. It was going to take more faith than they had currently to be able to follow the Lord's command regarding forgiveness. These men needed the Lord's help in having their faith increased. It was impossible for them to just go out and find more faith. They went to the right source...the living Word!
Whether we need more faith to forgive or to trust God's provision, the Word of God is our never ending resource of faith building. Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Many times in my life, I have recognized the need for more faith. It is in these times that I can ask the Lord to increase my faith. I will say that asking for an increase in faith can lead to a series of events that may or may not be what I thought would be the way to increase my faith. Trials and difficulties have always been faith builders. You might be in the midst of a challenging time right now. Ask God to use it for His glory and to build your faith. Be willing to trust His ways of increasing your faith.
