Our Scripture reading today is Hebrews 4:8-11.
Verse 10, "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his."
The comparison being made in this verse is God's resting on the seventh day of creation and our resting in Him for salvation. Genesis 2:2, "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." There is no work we can do to obtain or retain eternal life. Titus 3:5, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Our work following salvation isn't so we remain saved, but to bring glory and honour to our Saviour. There is a desire in the heart of every follower of Jesus Christ to please Him. We serve the Lord because we love Him and we want to serve Him. His Spirit gives us the spiritual power to have daily victory. It is very important that we focus more on trusting Him each and every day. Rest in His finished work for your salvation and sanctification.
