Today’s Scripture reading is Hebrews 9:24-26.
Verse 26, "For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."
There is a reason for rejoicing in this verse. The phrase, put away sin means to abolish, disannul, put away, reject. The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus death on the cross have put away the penalty and power of sin and will one day free us from the presence of sin. It is through the shed blood of the sinless Saviour that the "wages" of our sin have been paid. Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." His shed blood also enables us to have daily power to overcome temptation. 2 Corinthians 13:4, "For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you."
Our daily prayer ought to be to claim the victory that we have in Jesus Christ. This victory wasn't without a cost. The songwriter wrote, "O precious is the flo that washed me white as snow..." He came that we might have abundant life now and eternal life in Heaven in the future.
