Our Scripture reading today is Luke 15:23-24.
Verse 24, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to make merry."
The celebration and rejoicing for the return of the lost son was much greater than when the lost coin and the sheep were found. It is as if this son was dead and then came back to life. He was lost to his father and to himself. He had lost his dignity and peace. Thankfully, he was willing to humble himself and return to a place of love and forgiveness.
When someone returns to the Father, they are returning to a place of safety and security. Our enemy would like us to think both of these can be found in living by our own rules, but he is and always will be the great deceiver. If someone returns to your life, be willing to receive them as the father did his prodigal son. It does not mean we receive their sin, but it does mean we are willing to restore them. (See Galatians 6:1) Remember, the son came humbly. God always gives grace to the humble and so should we.
