Today's Scripture reading is Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"
The only way to have peace with the thrice holy God is through the sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus Christ. All other attempts to make peace with God are futile and will fail. The first few chapters of Romans make it very clear that all people are sinners and guilty before God. We deserve to pay the death penalty for our sin.
The love of God changed everything. Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus Christ became sin for us. He willingly laid down His sinless life in order that we might be justified. This justification is placed on our account immediately after we by faith receive God's gift of salvation. The second half of Romans 5:1 tells us that our justification leads to having peace with God. Saved sinners are no longer under the wrath of God! All that was needed for our justification and peace with God was provided through Jesus Christ. Oh! What a Saviour!
