Our Scripture reading today is Hebrews 13:5-6.
Verse 5, "...for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee."
The word, forsake, means to leave or totally abandon, to leave helpless. We are completely and eternally secure in Jesus Christ. Every promise the Lord Jesus makes, He keeps. The same cannot be said for us and yet He is always ready to help us in our time of need. There were similar promises made to Jacob (Genesis 28:15); Israel (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8); Joshua (Joshua 1:5, "There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."); and Solomon (1 Chronicles 28:20).
Since the empowerment of the church in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit indwells us the very moment we believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour. In this way, God is always with us in the person of His Spirit. One of our beloved hymns says, "He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone." God has and always will keep His promises!
Have a wonderful day!
