Our Scripture reading today is Luke 1:34-35.
Verse 35, "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."
The miraculous message of the angel to Mary was actually foretold over 700 years prior by the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Every Jew that read the great prophet Isaiah should have known who the baby Jesus was. What portion they had of the Word of God let them know long before He came just how He would come.
The Son of God came into this world like no other baby. He had no earthly father. He was not born with a sin nature like you and me. He is became a man without ceasing to be God. This truth is why He was able to die for all sinners. The Son of God laid down His life as a sacrifice for all. The Lord Jesus came into this world by a miracle birth and left this world by a miracle death. We, sinners, needed both!
