Our Scripture reading today is Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
Salvation through Jesus Christ is the way to Heaven and eternal life. It is also the way to freedom while we are still living in this old, sinful world. Our freedom did not cost us anything, but it did cost Jesus Christ everything. Freedom is never free.
In thinking this through, why would anyone give up their freedom for bondage? We are making choices each and every day. These choices are determining whether or not our old nature is in control or God's Spirit is in control. The freedom we have been given through Jesus Christ enables to choose the Spirit over the flesh. We are helpless without the power we have through Jesus Christ' sacrificial death on the cross and subsequent resurrection three days later.
Today is a day of rejoicing and praising God that we are free to say YES to HIM and NO to the world, the flesh and the devil.
