Our Scripture reading today is Philippians 3:12-14.
Verses 13-14, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
These two verses just happen to be my favourite or life verses of Scripture. The Apostle Paul is the human penman that the Holy Ghost used to write this words. Paul left us with an example of advancing. We read in verse 14 that he was pressing "toward the mark". The only way to go toward something is to move forward. There was no success in turning back, but only through moving forward and following the will of God. Luke 9:62, "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
We must not let the good or the bad that are behind distract us from God has in store for today. A race is not won in the past or in the future. It is won in the now. Life is filled with challenges, but God is greater than those challenges. He has a perfect will for your life today. Make today be the day you press toward that mark. Make today be the day you live for His honour and glory. Reach forth and press toward the mark today!
