Our Scripture reading today is Luke 22:27-30.

Verse 27, "For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth."

There is no question that we would not label the individual filling the water glasses at a high end restaurant as being great.  We would be thankful for his service but few, if any, would consider him or her to be more important than those at the table.  Once again, the Lord Jesus goes against the grain in identifying with those who are serving as opposed to those who are seated at the table.

We have been given the greatest privilege and opportunity.  The fact that we as sinners are able to serve the creator God is almost too good to be true.  Our text today even mentions that the Lord Jesus set the example for us to follow.  He came not to be served but to serve.  He came not to be ministered to but to minister.  This should be the pattern we follow as we live each and ever day.  Go to work to serve.  Go to school to serve.  Go to church to serve and minister.  Our God is worthy!
