Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:57-62.
Verse 62, "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
The overriding truth in these verses is the importance of seeking the kingdom of God first. Do we truly desire for our will to be put to death and God's will to be done? This may seem easy to say, but it can be quite challenging to live. This is no way is to insinuate that God's will is impossible. We are able to follow the will of God as we are yielded to the Spirit of God. It is also not meant to say that God's will is without joy and peace. In fact, the will of God is the most joyful and peaceful place for a Christian to be.
When ploughing a field it is very important to look straight ahead at a fixed point of reference. The result of looking back is a very crooked row. Jesus Christ makes this analogy in verse 62. Over two thousand years later, it is still imperative that we keep our eyes on Him. He makes the crooked straight. He keeps the straight from being crooked. Stay planted in His will for your life and watch Him produce fruit for His glory.
