Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:41-42.
Verse 42, "And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father."
The demon-devil in this child was not going to give up without a fight. It knew that Jesus was more powerful, but continued until the very end to bring as much pain and suffering to this child. The father knew where to take his son. He knew the son needed to be as near to Jesus as possible. As always, Jesus was and is victorious!
Our enemy continues to do much of the same today. Regardless of the fact that he knows God is more powerful, he is putting forth an all out attack. While his attack is not limited to children, I do believe it is a concentrated attack. If you have children in your home, please ask the Lord to reveal to you anyways where Satan is attacking your children. It could be something you are allowing into your home that is part of the problem. The solution today is the same as in our text. Our children need to be as close to Jesus as possible. They need to see godly examples at home. They need to see us being faithful to share the Gospel. They need to see us faithful to attend the church services. They need to be in church more not less. They need to see us reading God's Word and praying. Satan is not intimidated at all by casual Christianity. We are in a fight for our children!
1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
I John 4:4, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
Now is the time to humble ourselves and confess any known sin. We need God's power to lead and guide the next generation.
