Our Scripture reading today is 1 Chronicles 29:3-5.
Verse 3, "Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house."
In some of King David's final words on earth, he challenges the people about giving to God. The purpose was the building program of the temple. The key statement made is right at the beginning of this verse, "I have set my affection to the house of my God." David gave financially because his heart was in the right place. How is your financial giving record with God? The answer can always be traced back to where have you placed your affections. What or Who do you really love most?
Whether we believe it or not, everything we have was given to us by God. We own absolutely nothing. We have one task of being faithful stewards. In order to do this, we need to follow the advice of the Apostle Paul in Colossians 3:2, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
