Our Scripture reading today is 1 Corinthians 15:31, "I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily."
The context of this passage is the Apostle Paul referring to the daily thought of possibly losing his physical life for the cause of Jesus Christ. As you may know, he was enemy number one for the devil and his demons. In addition to the spiritual attack of our enemy, these bodies we live in do not last forever. James writes that our life is a vapour that appears and then is gone. We must use every day we have for the glory of God!
A secondary application of this Scripture can deal with dying to self every day. It could be the most difficult but needed daily decision we make. What exactly does it mean to die to self? I am sure there are various ways one could describe this statement. The one that stands out the most to me is the need we have to daily die to our will and plans. In order to be in the will of God, I cannot have my own way. There must be a spirit of surrender to what God has in store. His will and way are always better than ours!
