Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:13, "The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments."
What exactly were these "parchments" that the Apostle Paul was asking Timothy to bring to him? These could have been portions of the Old Testament or even Paul's own writing of the epistles. Either way, Paul was encouraging Timothy by his example of reading and study. 1 Timothy 4:13, "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine."
There should never come a time when we think we have learned it all. 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Not too many days go by when we fail to find something to eat. Along the same lines, it is imperative that we find time every day to consume a portion of God's Word. Our walk with God is vital to our daily victory in this sin cursed world. Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Don't forget to bring the Parchments into each and every area of your life!
